While man’s best friend has became a permanent part of the contemporary urban landscape, the dog’s breed specific characteristics such as, herding, hunting, guarding or rescuing have little place in the city. Many of today’s companion dogs have a fundamentally altered life style from that of their working predecessors. This virtual “re-domestication” puts significant mental and physiological stress on dogs that, consequently, manifest themselves in disturbing behavioral problems.
